Mitzi Aguirre from Davis, California was the winner of the annual Grand Theatre Raffle. Douglas resident Bill Wendt drew the winning ticket with Nick Forsythe and Debra Wendt as official witnesses to the drawing. First runner up was Jerome J Fagg from Kailua Kona, Hawaii. The runner up would be the winner should Mitzi Aguirre be unable to claim the grand prize of $3,000 dollars within 30 days.
Carlos Valenzuela, chairperson for the raffle stated, “In spite of a national campaign in magazines, thousands of direct mail pieces and phone calls, results were low due to a downturn in the economy and high gas prizes. Charitable organizations have seen a decline in contributions in the past six months. Nonetheless, we provided a good return for an investment of $75 dollars a ticket. We appreciate every contribution to the renovation of our theatre and maintain our resolve as strong as ever.”
Proceeds of the annual raffle, organized by the Douglas Arts and Humanities Association, benefit the renovation of the historic Grand Theatre on G Avenue.
